To use 3G cell phone like modem to have an access to the Internet is very easy. Usually I have 3 ways to connect my laptop/tablet:
USB cable
Very easy, just connect cell phone to a laptop with a USB cable, install modem driver and create Dial-Up connection. Connection is stable and my cell phone can provide me 6.0 - 6.9 Mb/s on the road (HSDPA). I use following parameters for my Fido phone: Modem extra-initialization (APN is the last parameter):
at+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet.fido.ca"
Dial-up phone number: 99**#
Bluetooth connection
Another option if the cable is not available. Setup is very easy too - just pair the laptop and cell phone and enable DUN service. Creating a Dial-Up connection is required too with same phone number and with same modem extra-initialization string (see USB cable). This connection is limited by bluetooth speed, so I can see only 1.3-1.5 Mb/s (My cell phone support only Bluetooth 2).
WiFi mobile hotspot
Some cell phones can work as WiFi hotspot. My cellphone can. Quick option with good connection speed, but it can dry the battery quickly. My cell phone can survive during one hour only.
